The fund began in 1991 after local jockey Mike Condon got injured in Carrigtoohill Point to Point. A group of locals got together to hold a fundraising night in aid of Mike and after it was a huge success it put them thinking and they decided it would be a good idea to try and set up a fund which would help local jockeys who ride on the Cork and Waterford circuit in the case of them getting injured. After numerous meetings the fund was set up and the hard work then started of trying to gather funds. That obviously was the hardest part and it continues to be the hardest part today. There was 24 present at the first meeting on the 20th Feb 1991 and the first set of officers were elected. Mr Jack Ryall was voted in as Chairperson, our current Chairperson Ms Eleanor Broderick was the secretary and Mr Bill Twomey and Mr Bill Ronayne were voted in as joint Treasurers.
